Message from the Dean

The College of Social and Educational Studies (CSES) extends a warm welcome to prospective and new students! The programmes offered by this College play a vital role in leadership, national growth, and development as they underpin critical careers that form the bedrock of modern societies, including our beloved Bahamaland. From Law Studies to Teacher Education, Social Work, Public Administration, Psychology, History and Religious Studies – one can easily recognize why producing excellent and innovative graduates in these areas will be crucial to the future growth of our nation.

The current mission of the College of Social and Educational Studies follows: CSES through its qualified, skilled, and experienced educators is committed to excellence in programme delivery, meeting student career aspirations and establishing a significant presence in, and influence over national development and policy-making initiatives related to educational, psychological, historical, social, and legal services. This will be accomplished through the development of signature programmes ongoing strategic partnerships; and excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service.

One of the ways our mission will be accomplished is through deliberate, dynamic, and continued dialogue with local and international experts and stakeholders related to our programmes. We recognize the success our students can experience when we maintain vital relationships with stakeholders such as the Ministries of Education, Social Services and National Security, to name a few. Signature events held by the Schools of Education and Social Sciences such as the University of The Bahamas Education Research Conference (UBERC), Conversations on Education and the Bahamas Psychological Association (BPA)Conference will continue to play a pivotal role in keeping us vitally connected to the local community.  Additionally, faculty are encouraged to continuously pursue local and international research initiatives, remain on the cutting edge of best practices in their respective fields, while challenging students to be among the best through rigorous and relevant programmes.

We wish all who join the CSES family an exciting and successful journey as you work towards completing your studies and taking your rightful place as workers and future leaders in The Bahamas (or beyond!). We believe that you can play a critical role in the growth and metamorphosis of this nation.  Career goals begin with taking the first step and you have done that by joining UB. Now work persistently towards the goal and know that we are here to support you along the way. University life is an exciting journey, so be open to new discoveries, embrace opportunities, and we’ll see you at the finish line!
