Mr. Elgin Smith, Vice President & Chief Information Officer
UB’s Chief Information Officer, Mr. Elgin Smith is leading the development of innovative, information technology necessary to undergird academic, research and business programmes and initiatives. He is responsible for strategic planning and direction as well as the technical leadership and operational management of UB’s technical operations, facilities and services. He spearheads the planning, prioritizing, implementation, assessment and evaluation of all technology projects with direct oversight for information technology operations; the development, review and execution of operating policies and procedures; vendor negotiations and contractual services; .BS Domain and for developing plans for business continuity and disaster recovery.
Mr. Smith is the former Area Manager, Senior Vice President of Technology at Cititrust (Bahamas) Ltd.; Service Manager at Office Systems Bahamas Ltd. and General Business Machines Ltd.; and Manager at Deloitte and Touche, having been responsible for the global management of production support, projects and controls, and the design, installation and support of internal communication systems. A senior manager with over 13 years of strategic planning, information technology and administrative leadership experience, as UB’s CIO Mr. Smith is committed to the delivery of exceptional customer service. He aims to provide innovative solutions and a sustainable environment of reliable infrastructure, applications and communications technology. He has had to manage aggressive budgets during lean times while still finding the resources to provide improved services and solutions through upgrades, streamlined workflows, retiring obsolete technology while adding new and improved ones.
Mr. Smith received his undergraduate education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science. In addition to his many professional certifications, he is a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and a Novell Certified Netware Administrator (CNA).
