University of The Bahamas Launches Automated Recruitment and Admissions
29thJuly 2022
University of The Bahamas (UB) has launched an automated online recruitment and application portal as it continues its digital evolution to meet the needs of prospective students from around The Bahamas and the world.
The newest module of the Ellucian Banner application which is at the centre of the University’s digitalization – Ellucian Banner Recruit – will directly impact recruitment and enrollment goals for UB. These are strategic targets for the institution.
The University has a student body of approximately 5,000 but with this new feature has the capacity to increase that number and further diversify the demographics for new students.
“We are continually improving our services to our students,” said Vice President of Administrative Services Dr. Marcella Elliott-Ferguson. “With this launch of new software, our application process is now simple and easy to navigate. Our application process is now completely online. Applicants can now apply online, upload their documents online, pay the application fee online and track the status of their application online from anywhere in The Bahamas and the world.”
Increasing operational efficiencies for a culture of excellence is one of the University’s strategic goals. The expansion of its digital platform is a key component of that. The work towards this goal started long ago.
President Dr. Rodney Smith hailed the implementation of Banner Recruit for undergraduate applications as a major achievement.
“With the University’s implementation of Banner Recruit, UB has taken a giant step toward recruiting students globally,” said Dr. Smith. “The University’s marketing should now include ads that can reach students in any part of the world, especially throughout the Bahamian archipelago, the entire Caribbean, and North, Central and South America. UB is now taking the next step toward becoming a regionally recognised University.”
UB’s Office of Recruitment and Admissions and the Office of Information Technology worked collaboratively with Ellucian Banner in order to develop and deploy this latest module which will make accessing the University more convenient.
Director of Recruitment and Admissions Dr. Patsy Wilson expressed excitement over the initiative and its anticipated impact.
“Prospective students are now able to apply, using our new online application portal, to our various programme offerings and at the same time questions can be addressed. This means that they can enter their demographic information, upload all required documents, receive automatic notifications on their application status and pay the requisite application fee, without having to come to the campus. This will be welcomed by all of our applicants, but particularly those on the Family Islands and in other countries,” explained Dr. Wilson.
This means also that printed applications will be eliminated.
“With this new addition to the Banner suite of applications, it greatly improves the speed and efficiency with which the university can respond to an applicant’s inquiries, review their documents and issue a decision letter. This is indeed a proud moment for the University and I would like to thank my entire team for their stellar performance in achieving this goal,” Dr. Wilson added.
Persons planning to apply to University of The Bahamas for Spring 2023 enrolment in time for the 30thSeptember 2022 are encouraged to use this automated portal accessible on the University’s website at www.ub.edu.bs and by clicking “Apply”.
