University Librarian Ms. Elsie Bain

University of The Bahamas announces the appointment of former Deputy Librarian Ms. Elsie Bain as University Librarian effective 1st January 2023.

In this role, Ms. Bain will provide strategic leadership for the coordination and management of library services, including developing and managing collections of books and journals; selecting, acquiring and cataloguing information using library and information software; coordinating and delivering information and digital literacy sessions; and contributing to academic programme development. She is also responsible for establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships in the University Libraries system and building effective working relationships with academic staff, students and the wider community.

A veteran employee of the institution, Ms. Bain started her career at the then College of The Bahamas in 1989 as a Library Clerk. Since then, she has held various positions including Reference Librarian, Circulation Librarian, Cataloging Librarian, Special Collections, and Acquisitions Librarian. Over the years, she has helped to advance the development of library services, the college/university curriculum, and the learning and research process.

Ms. Bain holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Clark Atlanta University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science and Policy from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and an Associate’s Degree in Library Science from the College of The Bahamas.
