Appointment of Dr. Maria Woodside-Oriakhi as VP Academic Affairs

Nassau, THE BAHAMAS – University of The Bahamas (UB) announces the appointment of Dr. Maria Woodside-Oriakhi as Vice President of Academic Affairs, effective 1st September 2020. Dr. Woodside-Oriakhi has been serving as Acting VP of Academic Affairs since October 2019.
As the chief academic administrative officer of the University, Dr. Woodside-Oriakhi will work closely with the President, advising on academic matters related to faculty, staff and student development, collaborating with academic deans, and working with the Academic Senate to advance the academic agenda of the institution. She has over 20 years of experience in higher education.
In addition to overseeing the administration and supervision of academic programmes and faculty-related matters, Dr. Woodside-Oriakhi also has responsibility for leading the assessment and preparation of academic programmes and services for accreditation review. She has oversight for monitoring the implementation of undergraduate strategic goals affecting teaching, learning, research and service and preparing and monitoring the budget, expenditure and fiscal policies for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Woodside-Oriakhi is an Associate Professor and veteran member of faculty at UB who has served as Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chair of Mathematics, Physics and Technology.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from Brunel University, London, UK, a Master of Science (MSc) in Mathematics from the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics from the University of Georgia, Georgia, USA.
She is married to Business Consultant Raymond Oriakhi and the couple has two children; Raymond and Anne-Marie.
