Appointment of Vernice Williams as Acting VP and Chief Information Officer

Nassau, THE BAHAMAS – University of The Bahamas (UB) announces the appointment of Mrs. Vernice Williams as Acting Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) effective 1stSeptember 2020.

The former Director of Information Technology, Mrs. Williams has diligently served the institution for more than three decades in various information technology positions, most recently providing critical project management support for the University’s transition to the Banner and Elevate systems. As the Acting CIO, she will provide the vision, planning, strategic direction, technical leadership and operation management of the University’s information technology operations, as well as media facilities and services. She will also review and establish operating policies and procedures; develop plans for business continuity, disaster recovery, contract services for information technology operations; and implement enhancements where necessary.

The work of the CIO is vitally important as the University maintains a robust data centre in support of its growing information and media infrastructure requirements. In this new capacity, Mrs. Williams will serve on the President’s Cabinet, Administrative Council, to assist with overall strategic and operational planning and manage the technical staff responsible for systems maintenance and upgrades, data security, load management, and virtualized services.

Over the years, she progressed through the ranks of the institution, serving as Computer Operator, Senior Computer Operator/Lab Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, and Assistant Director. An advocate for lifelong learning, she has also taught computer applications and computer literacy for Continuing Education and Extension Services.

Mrs. Williams is due to complete a Master of Science degree in Management with Human Resources from University of the West Indies in Fall 2020. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Services and an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Data Processing, both from the former College of The Bahamas. She also holds a certificate in Project Management for Results from the Inter-American Development Bank and achieved the Certified Manager designation from James Madison University.

She is married to Retired Police Sargent Donald Williams and the couple has three children; Avyreal, Valdez and Donniece and grandson, Quentin.
