University of The Bahamas Launches Broad Consultation for Strategic Plan, 2026-2031

14th May 2026

Nassau, THE BAHAMAS – University of The Bahamas (UB) is embarking on another significant initiative to elevate its transformation with the launch of a comprehensive strategic planning process to shape the institution’s future and increase its national development impact.

UB President Dr. Robert J. Blaine, III, announced on Thursday 14th May that the institution has initiated the process to develop the UB 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, a five-year roadmap expected to develop the University’s vision, mission, values-based culture and key goals and priorities. This will ultimately advance academic growth, accreditation efforts, and student success initiatives.

This new phase comes at a pivotal time for both UB and the country, as higher education institutions across the region face increasing demands to prepare graduates for rapidly evolving industries, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, research, and global competitiveness.

Describing the moment as “defining” for the institution, President Blaine said the strategic planning process will bring together stakeholders from across the University community and the wider public to help chart a shared vision and roadmap for the future.

“Faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry partners, community leaders and members of the public will all have opportunities to contribute ideas, perspectives, and aspirations for the future of UB,” said President Blaine. “We are committed to ensuring that this process is broad-based and inclusive. To make participation as accessible and extensive as possible, a blend of online and in-person engagement opportunities will be used.”

UB will facilitate a series of digital surveys, stakeholder consultations, discussions and forums for broad-based participation.

The announcement comes as the University, a candidate for accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and aspiring to be accredited by the National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB), continues to strengthen its continuous improvement infrastructure. According to University officials, progress in areas such as student success, institutional effectiveness, and community and economic engagement has already laid a stronger foundation for future growth.

Once completed, the new strategic plan will build upon the UB 2024–2026 Strategic Vision. The plan will identify major institutional priorities, reaffirm the University’s mission and values, and establish measurable goals to guide development over the next five years.

“Digital surveys and feedback tools will help us connect with stakeholders across the country, while face-to-face conversations will create opportunities for deeper discussion and shared understanding,” President Blaine noted.

Survey invitations and participation details will be distributed through official University channels as the process unfolds.

To help guide and support this work, the University has engaged an experienced firm, Soleil Solutions Consulting, Inc., to facilitate a smooth and collaborative process and develop the proposed strategic plan for review and consideration by the UB Board of Trustees.

As workforce demands evolve, and the need for knowledge-driven economies increases, UB is uniquely positioned to offer modern academic programmes, expand research capacity, strengthen industry partnerships, and better prepare graduates for rapidly changing realities. University leaders say the new strategic plan will transform UB into a structure and pipeline for innovation and national progress while keeping student success at the centre of decision-making.

“UB stands at a defining moment in its development. The work ahead calls for our collective energy and imagination. Our work extends beyond advancing institutional milestones; it is transforming lives and helping to shape the future of The Bahamas through the power of higher education,” President Blaine added.

The University is encouraging all stakeholders to participate actively in the process to advance institutional excellence and national development. Opportunities to connect and engage are outlined on a special website landing page: https://www.ub.edu.bs/strategic-plan-2026-2031/
