University of The Bahamas Announces the Appointment of Dr. Michelle T. Allen, Assistant Provost, Tourism and Hospitality

University of The Bahamas is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michelle T. Allen as Assistant Provost, Tourism and Hospitality, effective 1st August 2025.

In this pivotal academic leadership role, Dr. Allen will provide strategic oversight and direction to advance the University’s mission in the areas of tourism and hospitality education, research, and industry engagement. As part of the Academic Affairs Leadership Team, she will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support curriculum innovation, accreditation, student success, and faculty development; key components of the University’s strategic priorities.

Dr. Allen brings to this role more than three decades of distinguished experience in the tourism sector, spanning professional service and academic leadership across the Caribbean and the United Kingdom. She previously served as Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, and Acting Programme Director at the UWI Centre for Hotel and Tourism Management (CHTM) in Nassau, The Bahamas. Her academic journey began at Bournemouth University as a Lecturer in Hospitality and Events, and her teaching and research contributions have garnered numerous awards including the UWI Principal’s Award for Most Outstanding Research Activity (2024) and Best Book Publication (2023).

A prolific researcher, Dr. Allen has authored and co-edited four books and published over 59 research outputs in areas such as island tourism development, policy networks, and service productivity. Her leadership as a tourism expert on the UWI COVID-19 Task Force and as lead consultant on the UNDP Future Tourism Project’s Business Adaptation Programme, which impacted over 300 tourism MSMEs in 10 Eastern Caribbean countries demonstrates her commitment to innovation, impact, and inclusive growth.

Dr. Allen is a graduate of The University of the West Indies, the University of Surrey, and Bournemouth University, where she earned her PhD with no corrections following her Viva. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in Education Practice and is recognized for her excellence in teaching, having received the Beryl Allen Innovative Teaching Award in 2024.

An Executive Member of the Caribbean Tourism Researchers Network (CTRN) and long-standing researcher with the Caribbean Open Institute (COI), Dr. Allen continues to lead regional capacity-building efforts in tourism data, open data ecosystems, and artificial intelligence.
