UB Charter Events - University of The Bahamas

Inaugural Charter Week activities held 6th – 10th November 2016 garnered national participation and support for the establishment of the University of The Bahamas (UB), a vision expressed more than four decades ago. UB Charter Week included a Service of Thanksgiving; Panel of Presidents aimed at raising the level of discourse about the role of a university; UB Blue Day; Plaque Unveiling; Charter Ceremony and inauguration of the University President, Dr. Rodney D. Smith.
During a red-letter ceremony held at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium, UB Charter Day was observed on 10th November 2016. The ceremony paid homage to the university’s forerunner, the College of The Bahamas and the academics, administrators and stakeholders who contributed to the University’s foundation. It also served the dual purpose of providing the platform for the inauguration of Dr. Rodney D. Smith as the first President of UB.
Participating in the formal events were the Governor General Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling; Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie; Minister of Education, Science and Technology Hon. Jerome K. Fitzgerald; Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Earl A. Cash as well as President of Hampton University Dr. William R. Harvey.
