Dr. Joseph Ferguson Elected by Acclamation as Faculty Trustee on Board of Trustees

Assistant Professor Dr. Joseph Ferguson, Faculty Trustee on the Board of Trustees.

The Office of the University Secretary announces that Assistant Professor in the School of Mathematics, Physics and Technology (SMPT) Dr. Joseph Ferguson has been elected unopposed to the position of faculty trustee on the Board of Trustees (BOT).

Dr. Ferguson’s tenure is effective 1st December 2022. He succeeds Professor Bridget Hogg whose term of service on the BOT ended on 30th November 2022.

An alumnus of UB, Dr. Ferguson is a veteran employee of the institution with 22 years of service. He has served in various capacities and on a number of committees and task forces. Dr. Ferguson is a former UTEB Executive Officer, Faculty Representative on the Appointments Board and SMPT Faculty Representative for the School of Business.

Affectionately called “JoFe” by his students, Dr. Ferguson was a Presidential Advisor for the Student Government Association President for two terms. Over the years, he has mentored quite a number of students, some of whom have gone on to earn terminal degrees in Mathematics. He is also a former President of the Bahamas Chess Federation, Coach for Team Bahamas at the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai India in August 2022 and a Certified Director of the American Contract Bridge League.

Dr. Ferguson earned an Associate of Arts in Mathematics from the former College of The Bahamas, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Youngstown State University, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from University of Iowa and a PhD in Mathematics from Mississippi State University.
