CIO Elgin Smith Leaving To Pursue Another Opportunity

After eight years of distinguished service to University of The Bahamas as Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO), Mr. Elgin Smith is demitting office to pursue another opportunity, effective 1st September 2020.

Mr. Smith has provided steady and trusted leadership in the development of the innovative information technology needed to undergird academic, research and business programmes and initiatives.  Over the years, he has spearheaded the planning, prioritizing and assessment of all technology projects, operations, policies and procedures, helping to steer the institution through key periods of transition including its university status and implementation of the Ellucian Banner system.

While UB President Dr. Rodney D. Smith and senior administrators expressed sadness at Mr. Smith’s impending departure, they celebrated his many contributions and leadership over the years and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Effective immediately, Director Ms. Vernice Williams will provide leadership for the Office of Information Technology.  A further announcement will be made at a later date.
