The Culinary Bridge Programme is offered in conjunction with Kendall College in Chicago, Ill. This programme prepares students for entry-level employment in the food service or culinary industry or any one of the UB culinary or hospitality associate degree programmes with onward matriculation into a UB culinary or hospitality bachelor degree programme.
Programme Details
- Students take college preparatory Mathematics and English courses.
- In addition to a customer service course, students take the following four culinary courses over fourteen weeks:
- Introduction to Professional Cookery
- Introduction to Stocks, Sauces & Soups
- Introduction to Garde Manger
- Methods of Cooking
- Upon successful completion, students receive the following certificates:
- Bridge Certificate awarded by University of The Bahamas;
- Completion Certificate awarded by Kendall College; and
- Guest Service Gold Certification awarded by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute to students who obtain a score of 70% or higher on the Guest Service Gold Certification examination.
Who Should Apply?
- Recent high school graduates who may not have met direct entry requirements for a UB degree programme.
- Persons working in the food service or hospitality industry or other service sectors.
- Persons interested in obtaining entry level positions in the world’s number one industry – tourism.
- Industry professionals seeking upgrading.
How to Apply?
- Complete the UB Undergraduate Admission Application;
- Pay a non-refundable processing fee of $40.00 in the form of cash, bank certified cheque or draft, debit card or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Suncard) at the Business Office, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., weekdays;
- Submit completed application form, a copy of the processing fee receipt and supporting documents (a copy of valid passport showing passport number, photo identification and expiration date, self-statement and academic credentials including BGCSEs, BJCs, or other equivalents) to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., weekdays;
- Request an official transcript be mailed directly from the last school attended to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, P. O. Box N-4912, Nassau, The Bahamas.
