Accreditation: Advancing the Mission of UB
19th August 2025
In July 1974, the Father of the Nation, Sir Lynden Pindling, envisioned that within a decade, the College of The Bahamas (COB) would become a university. He, along with other national visionaries and every Principal or President of COB and University of The Bahamas (UB), foresaw accreditation as a vital milestone for our national tertiary institution. Today, that vision continues to guide us, with direct benefits for all stakeholders, especially our students.
Since the establishment of UB in 2016, both the administration and the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas (UTEB) have consistently expressed their support for national and international accreditation. Through the dedicated efforts of faculty, administration, staff and with the support of UTEB and internal and external partners, UB has recently submitted applications to The Bahamas’ national accrediting body, the National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB) and the leading international accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Accreditation represents a commitment to continuous reflection, evaluation and improvement. For our students, it ensures that their degrees and credits are recognised by accredited institutions globally, unlocking opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, participation in international academic and athletic programmes, research collaborations, and more.
As The Bahamas’ only national tertiary institution, UB remains focused on meeting the rigorous standards set by both NAECOB and SACSCOC. The administration will continue its collaborative work with UTEB and all stakeholders to achieve this critical goal.
We honour the dedication and sacrifices of those who laid the foundation upon which we now build, and we look forward to the successful outcomes of these accreditation efforts, as UB continues to move from strength to strength.
