Appointment of Acting Director, University Athletics

University of The Bahamas (UB) announces the appointment of Mr. Sean Bastian as Acting Director, University Athletics, effective immediately.

As Acting Director, Bastian will provide strategic and operational leadership for the University’s varsity sports programme, with responsibility for strengthening athletic operations, compliance, strategic planning, budgeting, facilities, events and the development of coaches and staff. He will also work across the University to support the academic progress, wellbeing and overall experience of student-athletes.

Managing relationships with national and international sports bodies and stakeholders is also a key responsibility as the University’s Athletics Programme, enters an important stage of continued growth and development.

Building on earlier progress and achievements, UB Athletics and its UB Mingoes teams have achieved a number of significant milestones, expanding opportunities for student-athletes and establishing itself as an important pathway for Bahamian athletes competing at the highest levels. UB is now positioning the programme for its next phase of development, with the long-term goal of becoming eligible to apply for membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Bastian brings more than two decades of experience in University Athletics and sports administration. He has served as Assistant Athletics Director at the former College of The Bahamas and UB since 2005, contributing to the continued development of the University’s Athletics programme.

His broader experience includes service with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, His broader experience includes service with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, Student Activities and intramural programming. He has also held leadership positions with national sporting bodies, including the Bahamas Basketball Federation, Bahamas Handball Federation and the Bahamas Summer Madness Basketball Classic, and remains actively involved in other community and sporting initiatives.

Bastian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Franklin Pierce University. His extensive experience in athletics, administration and sports development positions him to build on the programme’s progress while helping to strengthen the systems, standards and opportunities needed for its next chapter.
