Spring 2022 Commencement Announcement
26th April 2022
Dear graduating seniors and the University community,
We are about to enter one of the most honourable and celebratory periods on the academic calendar, the Spring 2022 Commencement season.
Our graduands have stayed the course and persevered through rigorous academic requirements and especially challenging circumstances to successfully end one chapter of their lives and begin another. As we prepare to pay homage to their strength and achievements, we are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Health and Wellness has granted approval for University of The Bahamas to host its 2022 Commencement activities in-person with the requisite COVID-19 health protocols in place. Consequently, we will be returning to our traditional mode of Commencement activities to salute our hardworking graduates and honour the sacrifices that they and their families have made to pave the way for their success.
The Ceremonial and Occasions Committee has been working steadfastly to prepare for these events and has adjusted its planning in light of the recent approval from health authorities. Spring 2022 Commencement events will be held with the traditional pomp and circumstance under the theme: “We Survived, Now We Thrive: Succeeding Against the Odds” from 24th May to 1stJune in New Providence and Grand Bahama. The full schedule of events is at the end of this announcement.
All graduands and attendees must adhere to all health protocols including providing proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test taken within three days of each event; properly wearing a mask covering the nose and mouth; and maintaining physical distancing. As an added measure, the COVID-19 Enforcement Unit will also be present and COVID-19 Ambassadors will be assisting with security checks to ensure all regulations are being followed. Each graduate is allowed a maximum of eight guests.
Further requirements follow:
· Each graduand, programme participant and guest will be required to produce proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result.
· Graduands and programme participants may present their proof of vaccination at the Commencement rehearsal on Thursday 19th May 2022.
· All guests will have to present either proof of vaccination or a negative test result on the day of Commencement.
· All graduands will have masks issued as a part of this year’s graduation regalia.
· All programme participants must wear masks.
· All guests must wear masks.
After a two-year hiatus on in-person Commencement events, we look forward to celebrating this season with our graduates in traditional fashion and saluting them as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
