Remembering Dahphaney Maxine, A Cherished Member of the UB Mingoes Family

The University of The Bahamas community is mourning the passing of Dahphaney Maxine, a beloved student, student-athlete, campus leader and friend to many, who passed away on Monday, 31st August, 2026.
A sophomore in the School of Education, Dahphaney was pursuing a degree in Physical Education K–12, having transitioned from the pre-Nursing programme. She was passionate about education, sports and serving others, with dreams of pursuing graduate studies in Sports Medicine.
Dahphaney embraced university life wholeheartedly. She was a member of the UB Mingoes Women’s Volleyball Team, served as a Resident Assistant and Treasurer of the Residence Hall Association, and was actively involved in student leadership, including her work with the Bahamas Youth Network.
But for those who knew her, Dahphaney will be remembered for so much more than her accomplishments. She was warm, energetic and full of life. A passionate member of the dance ministry at Change Ministries International, she found joy in worship and liturgical dance.
Dahphaney also had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome. She would go out of her way to help others, draw people in and make sure no one felt left out. That same warmth and energy made her a beloved member of the UB Mingoes family. Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Raymond Wilson said Dahphaney became an immediate part of the team, fitting in “as if she was always there.” Her teammates remember her as a sister whose kindness, love and beautiful spirit strengthened the bond they shared both on and off the court.
Dahphaney’s dedication and promise were evident long before she came to UB. A native of Abaco, she graduated from Patrick J. Bethel High School as salutatorian, carrying that dedication and excellence into her university studies, athletics and service to others.
The University community will continue to hold Dahphaney’s mother, family, friends, teammates, classmates and church family in our thoughts and prayers.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Dahphaney’s life and legacy. On that day, the UB flag will be flown at half-mast in remembrance of a young woman who brought a beautiful sense of belonging wherever she went and will always be a cherished member of the UB family.
