University of The Bahamas currently has several private scholarships available for full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students who meet the requirements. These awards may be used to cover tuition, books, laptops, paid internships, study abroad opportunities and more.

Lyford Cay Foundations Scholarships
As a legacy donor, Lyford Cay Foundations, a valued partner of University of The Bahamas has generously provided funding for several awards now available to cover academic awards, study abroad scholarships and academic enhancement at Oakes Field and UB-North campuses.
Award Details
Students demonstrating financial need rreceiving the Bahamian tuition rate with acceptance into the following programmes are eligible to apply at the Oakes Field or UB-North campus:
- Associate, Pre-Tech, Pre-Nursing, Bachelor, or Master’s programmes
- Summer Bridging, Certificate, and Academic Enhancement Programmes
- All scholarship recipients must carry no less than the minimum number of major-related credits per semester as outlined in the UB’s Policy on Student Awards and Financial Aid.
A GPA of 2.0 is required for College Preparatory/Academic Enhancement, the student must take a minimum of four courses and maintain a ‘C’ average and complete their programme of study.
Scholarship funds are also available for tuition and fees, books and supplies directly related to the course of study, and UB meal plans.
Students receiving the Family Island Allowance may apply scholarship funds toward accommodations.
President’s Scholars Programme (PSP) J.S. Johnson Scholarship
Value: $10,000.00 annually
Duration: 4 years
The PSP fosters intellectual growth and refines students’ leadership abilities. Incoming first-year students enrolled in the President’s Scholars Programme (PSP) who are outstanding academic and leadership scholars and meet the eligibility requirements may apply for the $6,000 annual award.
The award covers tuition and fees.
Applicants must be Bahamian students who maintain a 3.5 GPA, or higher.
Additionally, the scholarship provides $4,000 for leadership training and development and a study abroad experience.
Bahamas First Insurance Emerging Leaders Scholarship Award
Value: $10,000.00 annually
Duration: 4 years
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian student enrolled in an undergraduate programme in Business Administration, Business Management, Information Technology, Mathematics, Eco-Tourism, Sustainability, or Engineering
Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
Participate in at least one leadership programme| Participate in community service with mandatory involvement in the University’s Emerging Leaders Programme. Other
Highlights: There is an opportunity for a paid internship.
Cacique Awards Major Entrance Scholarship
Value: $8,700.00 annually
Duration: 4 years
Eligible Candidates: Full Time Student| Enrolled in any undergraduate degree in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Sales, Marketing, Culinary, Communications, Information Technology, Graphics, Research or Statistics in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Sales, Marketing, Culinary, Communications, Information Technology, Graphics, Research or Statistics
Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
Other Highlights: Funding may cover tuition and fees, books and a one-time purchase of a laptop and equipment/supplies.
Commonwealth Brewery Limited (CBL) Direct Award
Commonwealth Brewery Ltd. offers scholarship opportunities and beyond tuition support to Bahamian students attending the UB-North and Oakes Field campuses.
Award Details
The award covers tuition and course fees for part-time students enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate Programmes:
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – Accounting
- Computer Information Systems
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Economics & Finance
- Management and Marketing
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) – Electrical Engineering Technology
- Associate of Science (ASc) – Civil Engineering Technology; Engineering Mechanical and Engineering Technology
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Accounting; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Financial and Decision-Making Leadership
A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required.
CBL Awards for Continuing Education & Lifelong Learning (CELEARN)
CBL will allocate one-time scholarships to support students who wish to obtain a Certification-level achievement, specifically for the Continuing Education & Lifelong Learning (CELEARN) course offerings.

This scholarship is available to students pursuing:
- Certificate in Accounting
- Certified Administrative Professional
- Professional
- Certified Computer Application Technician (CCAT)
- Certified in Human Resource Management
- Certified Professional Managers
- Certified Project Manager
- Certified Training & Development Specialist
- Single Phase Electrical License
- Three-Phase Electrical Contractor’s License
CBL Awards for Beyond Tuition Scholarship (Textbooks & Laptop Assistance)
Beyond Tuition (may include textbooks assistance, a laptop and internship opportunities) however, it cannot be awarded to student recipients of any other CBL scholarship and is open to students on all UB Campuses.
A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required for this one-time award.
Scotiabank Scholars Major Entrance Scholarship
Value: $6,000 renewable
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian students at University of The Bahamas awarded to School of Business students entering any full-time undergraduate degree programme in Business.
Scotiabank Scholars Study Abroad
Value: $6,000 non-renewable
Eligible Candidates: Full time Business majors at University of The Bahamas seeking international study abroad.
Bacardi Emerging Leader Major Entrance Scholarship
Value: $3,000 renewable
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian students entering full-time undergraduate degree programme in Accounting, Natural or Applied Sciences and Mathematics.
Pearinder’s Foundation – Dr. Randall A. Pinder Scholarship
Value: $3,000.00 renewable
Eligible Candidates: A full-time undergraduate degree programme with a declared major in Liberal Arts and/or Education.
Maintain a cumulative of 2.0 GPA or Higher
Jane and Marcus Bethel Scholarship Award
Value: $2,500.00 annually
Duration: 4 years
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian Student| Freshman| Need and Merit based| Maintain a Cumulative 3.00 GPA or higher
Other Highlights: $1,000 award for study abroad experiences for third-year students for a full semester at a recognized university in partnership with UB.
Bank of The Bahamas Limited Resource Scholarship Award
Value: $2,500.00 annually
Duration: 4 years
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian Student| Freshman| Need and Merit based| Maintain a Cumulative 3.00 GPA or higher
Other Highlights: $1,000 award for study abroad experiences for third-year students for a full semester at a recognized university in partnership with UB.
Meadows Family Student Support Award
Value: $1,666.00 per student
Duration: One time
Eligible Candidates: Financial Need Based
Pursuing dual degrees in any of the following disciplines: Business Studies (except hospitality), Liberal & Fine Arts (except for Music Studies), Pure & Applied Sciences and Social Educational Studies
Maintain a Cumulative of 2.75 GPA or Higher | Complete 16 hours of Community Service
Zonta Club of New Providence Betty Kelly Kenning Memorial Endowment Fund
Value: $1,500.00 annually
Scholarship provides the opportunity for higher education specifically for Bahamian women 25 years old and older with financial needs. To be eligible, applicants must have attained an AA degree and currently pursuing a BA degree, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Winston Saunders Memorial Scholarship
Value: $2,000.00 annually
Eligible Candidates: Offered one student in his/her final year in baccalaureate program. An in-course scholarship award to a promising student in English Studies program based on academic merit and written work.
The Diment Matthews Scholarship
Travel scholarship for foreign language immersion study aboard with preference for French studies.
Value: $2,000.00 one time, one student per year
Eligible Candidates: Full time undergraduate student enrolled at UB in good academic standing. Acceptance into a foreign language studies immersion experience. 49 credits (minimum) should be completed nine of which is intended for study abroad experience.
Bahamas Out Island Promotion Board
Value: $1,000.00 annually, renewable
Must be a full-time student(s) enrolled in or entering any degree programme at the University.
A merit award, with academic retention criteria, Preference will be given to students from the islands of: Abaco, Acklins, Andros, Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Harbour Island, Long Island and San Salvador. Students will be given the opportunity to intern with the Bahama Out Islands Promotion Board members and participate in professional development opportunities prior to graduation.
Students will also participate in community engagement and speaking opportunities.
Karen Miller-Crean Scholarship Fund
Value: $1,000.00 one-time
Duration: 1 year
Eligible Candidates: Bahamian Student | Freshman | Graduate from any public school in Eleuthera | Majoring in Education, Nursing, Technology, Agriculture or Hospitality
Maintain a 2.50 GPA or higher
William ‘Bill’ Saunders Endowed Student Resource Award
Value: $1,000.00 one-time
Eligible Candidates: one full-time undergraduate degree programme in Culinary or Tourism and Hospitality
Maintain a Cumulative of 2.75 GPA or Higher for Culinary and minimum of 3.00 cumulative G.P.A for Tourism and Hospitality
Bahamas State Leadership Conference (BSLC)
Value: $1,000.00 one-time
Eligible Candidates: Must be a full-time student at the University of The Bahamas in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with demonstrated financial need and a citizen of The Bahamas
This resource award can cover beyond tuition resources such as textbooks, technology, athletic or musical instruments and any other educational materials needed for use in courses at University of The Bahamas.
Caribbean Women in Leadership "CIWIL” Student Resource Award
Value: $500.00 one-time
Criteria: Eligible young women with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who display leadership abilities through school involvement, extracurricular activities, civic organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or other platforms.
The award can cover educational resources such as textbooks and study materials.
Cornèr Bank Direct Art Scholarship Award
Value: $500.00 one-time
The Cornèr Bank Direct Art Scholarship Award will create a tradition of making an indelible mark on future generations of leaders. The Cornèr Bank Direct Art Scholarship Award supports deserving Associate of Art students to cover art supplies.
Criteria: Any full-time student in the Art discipline with a 2.50 GPA may apply for the scholarship. Students from Nassau and Family Islands applicable. Must be a full-time student.
The Eric and Laura Drake Minns Endowment Fund for the Music Programme
Eric Minns Award – $500.00 for an outstanding student entering the BA in Music programme but requiring the Academic Enhancement Programme, will be nominated by the full-time music faculty, and selected by the Scholarship Committee.
Instrument Awards – $1,800.00 for instruments for BA in Music students; based on seniority, ability, and need as determined by full-time music faculty.
The Zoë, Lady Maynard Student Grants
Value: $500.00 one-time
Eligible Candidates: Available to be disbursed to one student, as identified by the Office of Disability and Compliance, who demonstrate a need for technology, support aide, or other equipment that will enrich and enhance their UB student experience, so that they may reach their greatest potential.
