Science Week
Each year, Chemistry, Environmental and Life Sciences faculty host a Science Week. This dynamic schedule of events brings together science educators, university students, secondary and primary school students for a weeklong celebration of all things science. Events include seminars, workshops, poster presentations, trivia, movie night and chemistry experiments. From hands-on activities to academic lectures, there is definitely something for everyone at CELS’ Science Week.
Brain Awareness Week
Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is a global campaign and celebration to increase public awareness of the brain, brain disorders and the importance of brain research. It is the brainchild of The Dana Foundation, “Your Gateway to Responsible Information About the Brain”, a private philanthropic organization. UB’s Chemistry, Environmental and Life Sciences became an international partner of the Campaign in 2015. Each year CELS selects a theme and hosts events such as exhibitions, public lectures and a film series, emphasising the theme. The events, typically held on the Oakes Field Campus, engage and bring together scientists, students and the local community. The third week in March has been designated Brain Awareness Week; however, it can be celebrated at any time of the year.
