Government and Public Policy Institute
The Government and Public Policy Institute is a new Centre of Excellence for the University of The Bahamas. Designed to encourage and support research on national and regional matters relevant to public policy creation and practice, the Institute will foster critical inquiry, discourse and engagement around national development and public policy matters through publications and other media, seminars, lectures and fora. The Institute will also provide consultancy and research services to agencies and ministries of the Government of The Bahamas as well as private entities based on national development goals and research priorities.
One of the primary functions of the Institute will be to assist with developing and overseeing the implementation of the National Development Plan for The Bahamas and to provide revisions of the same on an ongoing basis, ensuring wide consultation and interdisciplinary research and planning best practices. It will develop and disseminate annual National Key Performance Indicators and Economic Forecasts in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, The Central Bank of The Bahamas and the Office of the Prime Minister.
With regard to other government ministries, the Institute will assist in the provision of strategic support with respect to strategic planning and the training of public personnel. It will also provide objective, non-partisan assessments of national electoral processes via polling surveys as well as ongoing research and academic analysis in the areas of governance, decentralisation and democratisation.
