Media Lab Technician (Full-Time)

The Journalism and Mass Communication Department is seeking a Media Lab Technician. The successful candidate will be expected to manage the daily operations of both radio studio and journalism lab at University of The Bahamas. Specific duties include but are not limited to assisting students in audio and video production classes with editing audio and video segments for broadcast and other projects; supervising work-study students assigned to the journalism lab; maintaining a daily log of use of video and audio equipment; troubleshooting technical editing software difficulties; maintaining upkeep of radio studio and media lab, supplies and inventory; coordinating the scheduling and organization of students using both studio and lab. The position requires a background in media production and studio management. Comprehensive knowledge of radio show production, including uploading audio/video segments and programmes to web outlets and distribution; Mac computers and technical troubleshooting, audio board mixers and playback; Adobe editing software, including Premier Pro CC, Photoshop, Character Animator, Audition and After Effects is required. In addition, the individual must have strong organizational skills, exceptional customer service skills, a team oriented positive attitude the ability to work with a high degree of independent judgment. A Bachelor’s Degree in Media production or related field and 1-3 years’ experience at a television station or film production company or an audio studio or in podcast production is required.

Part-Time Lecturer, Art (Ceramic Art)

The Visual and Performing Arts Department is seeking part-time faculty to teach ceramics arts. The ideal candidate will be required to teach ceramic courses, manage the ceramic studio, maintain supplies inventory, prepare students for exhibitions and liaise closely with the Visual Arts Department. Part-Time Art Studio Technician

The Visual and Performing Arts Department is seeking a part-time Art Studio Technician. The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of the studios and instructional areas within the Visual Arts Department including the ceramics studio and facilities and the multi-function art studios. Specific duties include but are not limited to coordinating studio needs and activities that support the curriculum; preparing the studios for use at the beginning of each semester; ensuring effective and safe utilization of the studios during the semester; and coordinating the end of the semester clean up and closing of the studios for winter and summer breaks. The candidate will also manage, maintain, and repair studio tools and equipment; maintain and monitor inventory; establish, monitor and adhere to all safety procedures; coordinate the schedule and organization of the kilns. Associate Professor, Agriculture (Full-Time)

The Biology Department is seeking senior faculty members with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research. The successful candidates will have a strong demonstrated of securing external research funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, managing laboratories/field stations and mentoring students. Applicants who demonstrate the ability to establish a research agenda that addresses issues in crop production and farming at multiple scales relative to small island developing states will receive special consideration. Extensive experience working in a plant micropropagation lab is advantageous. The successful candidates will assist in the development and review of programmes and courses, advise students, work with external stakeholders in industry and government as well as teach courses in agriculture or plant biology. Candidates must have a terminal degree in agriculture, plant biology, crop science, agronomy, horticulture or a closely related field from an accredited university.

Assistant/Associate Professor Architecture (Full-time)

The Technology Department is seeking a faculty member to teach in a new five-year bachelor of architecture degree programme. Applicants will have demonstrated the potential for excellence in teaching, design and professional practice, creative and/or scholarly works. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a research/design agenda that incorporates sustainable design, energy and other conservation considerations with a particular focus on small island states. Candidates with expertise in either building services and technology, architectural design and digital media or urban and regional planning are encouraged to apply. Assistant/Associate Professor, Biology (Full-Time)

The Biology Department is seeking several faculty members with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research for both its New Providence and Northern Bahamas Campuses. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of securing external research funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and mentoring students. Applicants who demonstrate the ability to establish a research agenda that addresses issues in fisheries, marine biology, environmental sustainability and health will be given special consideration. The successful candidates will assist in the development and review of programmes and courses, advise students, teach introductory and advanced courses in at least one of the following areas: cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and plant biology. Laboratory Associate, Biology (Full-Time)

The Biology Department invites applicants with broad backgrounds in biology for a staff position as a full-time laboratory associate. The successful candidate will be required to supervise up to twelve hours (weekly) of introductory laboratory sections and work with faculty and other staff to provide an academically rigorous and enriching laboratory experience for students. In coordinating and overseeing the safe, effective and efficient operations of the laboratory, the successful candidate will be required to:

  • Manage student assistants and others by ensuring appropriate work standard and training;
  • Manage inventory and coordinate purchasing of equipment and supplies;
  • Develop, document and ensure the adherence to proper safety procedures;

Clinical Supervisor, Nursing (Full-Time)

The Nursing Department is seeking to hire individuals committed to serve as role models and mentors for nursing students. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to supervise and evaluate nursing students in the clinical and laboratory environments. They will ensure that students incorporate fundamental nursing principles in the delivery of holistic, quality nursing care to clients, families and communities; across the life span at all levels of care. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Liaise with faculty and clinical staff to evaluate students’ performance of clinical skills and procedures;
  • Demonstrate proper technique in the performance of clinical skills and procedures
  • Provide ongoing constructive feedback to students;
  • Ensure that students document their clinical experiences according to established protocols;

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required along with a minimum of five years’ post-basic experience with preferred specialty in medical and surgical nursing. Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian, the Law Librarian has oversight of the law reference desk services and collections; responsibility for training, mentoring and evaluating staff evaluating reference desk services and usage of collections and making appropriate recommendations; recommending policies and procedures that meet established standards; participating in budget analysis and preparation; monitoring expenditure of approved budget allocations; coordinating collection development activities in keeping with established policies; supervising full-time and part-time staff and student workers; conducting bibliographic and information literacy sessions; preparing reports; attending professional and general staff meetings; serving on library and college wide committees; engaging in research and professional activities; working evenings and weekends on rotation. Applicants must possess at least a master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited institution and a minimum of five years post qualification experience, preferably in a Law Library; skills in library automation, manipulation of legal database, online searching, bibliographic and information literacy instruction, and evidence of managerial or supervisory experience. Knowledge of Commonwealth and Caribbean legal systems would be an asset. This is a faculty position at the rank of Librarian II.

Campus Librarian, Librarian II – Northern Bahamas (Full-Time)

The University Libraries is seeking a full-time Librarian to lead the strategic development of library services at its Northern Bahamas Campus. The incumbent will be a dynamic, innovative individual with strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills that engender excellence in librarianship, customer service, collegiality and professionalism. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound understanding of emerging technologies and trends in library and information science and their application in an academic library environment, along with a strong commitment to developing excellent and innovative integrated library services within the institution. The duties of the Librarian will include but not be limited to leadership in planning, budgeting, monitoring and assessing library services delivery; policy development and facilities management; supervision and training of library staff; engagement in library related research; liaising with all academic units, and performing evening and weekend reference desk assignments (on rotation); and performing other related duties as assigned to support the ongoing development of the University Libraries. Successful candidates must have an earned Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science from an accredited university; and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an academic library which includes management and leadership of a library branch/unit.
